70-year old South Korean Grannies Training in Taekwondo

As I was surfing the Internet I came across this inspiring video on YouTube. This video shows many women aged 70 years and above training in Taekwondo in Korea. With such energy and passion, it’s safe to say that these grandmothers do not only train for the sake of something to do, but that they are gaining great benefits from their activity.

Master Yoon Yeo-Ho, their Taekwondo teacher who chose to teach Taekwondo to older adults, states that these grandmothers see training as a way to help them prevent are-related diseases such as arthritis, osteoporosis and diabetes. It’s inspiring to witness people in their golden years to still want to pursue high energy activities like martial arts.

Although it’s a given that they are not aiming to establish a career and fight professionally, it’s still heart-warming to see these locals giving importance to Takewondo, their national martial art. This can actually set a good example not only among Koreans but also to the world that it’s never too late to engage in something that is beneficial. In pursuing martial arts training, these grannies not only proved that they can still be active,  they can also inspire others to do the same.

The students at this martial arts academy in Inchon, South Korea are unusual for one reason – they are all women over the age of 70. The other side of normal…
