The History and Global Transmission of Wing Chun (In Less than Five Thousand Words)

Wing Chun is a type of hand combat that originated from Southern Chinese culture. It started to gain popularity when Ip Man who was a former police officer ended up teaching it after he moved to Hong Kong. The film that was released in 2008 called Ip Man ended up driving even more recognition to its popularity. When Wing Chun reached Hong Kong, commercial schools began to open up where children could learn the skills associated with this form of Cantonese hand combat.
