Weight Loss and Food Intake Moderation

Weight Loss and Food Intake Moderation

August 14, 2012 By Brett Kraiger

One of the many issues faced by middle aged people undergoing martial arts training is their weight. If you are overweight, martial arts training can be challenging. Aside from the fact that you carry more weight and require more effort in performing even the most basic moves, you also get exhausted more quickly compared to other people. This is one of the many reasons why overweight middle aged people shy away from martial arts training in trying to lose weight. But this doesn’t have to be the case all time.

On the contrary, martial arts training is an effective means of trying to lose weight. Aside from giving you a constant physical activity, it develops an individual’s discipline and self-control which are also needed in weight loss. Discipline is necessary for an individual who needs to be consistent in his efforts to lose weight. Self control is required especially in sticking to your chosen type of diet. Through martial arts, you will be able to stick to your weight loss plans which even include other means aside from martial arts training.

Food intake moderation is a basic principle in a healthy diet.

Moreover, you need to learn certain tips in order to control the amount and quality of the food you consume. Activity and diet go hand in hand when you try to lose weight. In other words, undergoing martial arts training will never be enough. You also need to improve on your eating habits. One of the ways to achieve this is by moderating the frequency and amount of your food intake. This idea was mentioned on an article entitled “Healthy Eating Guidelines“. The succeeding sections are excerpts of that article.

Moderating your food is often overlooked because people tend to believe they either have to eat healthy all the time, or not at all. This all or nothing attitude can hinder you from reaching your health and fitness goals. Moderation is by far one of the most important tips on eating healthy. It will help you learn how to split up meals properly while simultaneously learning how to ration yourself little bits of your guilty pleasures, like how I eat a couple oreos every once in awhile.

But first you have to split up your meals throughout the day and try to constantly eat healthy snacks and meals with high nutritional value. If you have 6-8 small meals a day it will help speed up your metabolism, which in return will help you lose weight and gain energy. On the other hand if you eat 3 large meals a day you set up your metabolism to slow down and your body to crash because you are overloading your body instead of gradually fueling it.
